Please find the WFN Newsletter for the month ending September 2023.
Should anyone wish to add/write anything to the next newsletter, please feel free to email it to me at info@wildlifefilmnetwork.com

Points of notice for this month:
New –   1. New members
New –   2. Holding zoom meetings in different time zones
New –   3. Location for a December WFN Face-to-face meeting / Christmas Dinner meet
New –   4. The Wildlife Film School have listed their 2024 courses on the WFS website

1.  We lost 4 WFN members last month:
Sadly, we lost WFN 4 members during the month of August; and unfortunately, not one of them told us why in the section of the cancelation form that asks you ‘why you are leaving’…
So I would like to take this opportunity (again) to do a quick little survey. As usual I am sending this email newsletter to every single member of the WFN, so in turn, would really like to hear back from ‘all’ WFN members in reference to this. It’s quite simple –
–  Is there anything you think the WFN could do to make the WFN more interesting for you, and get ‘you’ as a member, to be more interactive with it?

2.  I had a chat with Lars about holding zoom meetings in different time zones
Lars Isaac who is a camera opp in Vancouver. We had a good chat about the WFN, what he thought of it. I am extremely glad to say that he thought it was a brilliant idea (His words).
We quickly moved onto the subject of what he thought I could do to make the WFN better for its members. We played around with a few ideas, but the one that looked like it had the most ‘pull’ was holding zoom meetings during different times of the day (in the UK), so international members in different time zones wouldn’t have to get up in the middle of the night to attend a zoom meeting.
I think this is a great idea, so am reaching out to all our international members to ask… is this is something you would like the WFN to start doing. Because if it is we could start doing this once we have heard back from you / members, seen where you / they are based and worked out the best time to organise a zoom meeting etc. So, please let us know and we get onto it.

3.  Location for a December WFN Face-to-face meeting / Christmas Dinner meet
One of the other things I chatted about with Lars was the fact that although his is now in Vancouver, he is originally from Manchester and will be coming back to the UK for Christmas. I instantly jumped on the chance to meet up and have a pint etc, which quickly morphed into the idea of holding a meeting at a time that he would be able to attend. Naturally the WFN are planning to hold a Christmas meeting; so, I am asking for members to write in with locations they think it would be good to hold a Christmas Dinner meet (In December) and I can get to work on organising something.

4.  The Wildlife Film School have listed their 2024 courses on the WFS website
The Wildlife Film School has listed its 2024 wildlife film courses on its website. https://wildlifefilmnetwork.com/school/
The courses are a series of trips traveling up the west coastline of Scotland in a south to north direction spending approximately 4 weeks in each location. The route is part of the route I paddled during my expedition to be the first person to paddle a sea kayak, solo, unsupported, around the whole of the British Isles (24 years ago) for which a was awarded a Guinness World Record.
You do not have to come on a film course (although you are more than able to if you want to) but the offer is open to anyone who may wish to join us at any point during the trip at any of the six locations; to get a bit (or a lot) involved. You can simply turn up and have a chat over a campfire, or get stuck right in by operating a camera, undertaking sound recording or even do some editing. No pressure… but the offers there if you wish.
I am hoping the course will fill up well this year. They have only been on the website for a week, and already we have had one student (From the USA) pay his course deposit for the Isle of Skye in July.

Ok, again that’s all for this month. Very short and sweet I know, but I don’t have much news myself as I have been catching up with everything since my return from Scotland and my Land Rover has been in the garage for the last 3 weeks catching up on 5 years’ worth of servicing! I am supposed to have it back tomorrow (which will be great) as I just want to get out there again.
Feel free to email us and let us know what you are doing / planning over the next few months, we would be delighted if you could write something about it for our newsletter!
